Homegrown Business: Sarwat of Gluten Free Dreams

In the bustling world of speciality baking, Sarwat, the creative force behind Gluten Free Dreams, has carved out a niche for herself by offering celiac-friendly cakes that are as stunning as they are delicious. Operating out of Kirkland, Quebec, Sarwat’s online business caters to moms seeking high-quality, nutritious birthday cakes and celiacs celebrating life’s biggest moments, including weddings. With a commitment to traditional recipes and wholesome ingredients, Sarwat fills a gap in the gluten-free market, proving that dietary restrictions don’t mean compromising on flavour or artistry.

Gluten Free Dreams

What is your business called and what does it do?

Gluten Free Dreams provides people with celiac disease with wholesome quality cakes that taste AND look amazing.

What made you want to do this work?

There was a huge market gap in the gluten-free community for great-looking and delicious desserts. We’re used to buying misshaped, frozen desserts from the tiny freezer section in the grocery stores. I wanted to offer my customers fresh, high quality and great-looking cakes that even the gluten-eating folks can’t tell are gluten-free.

What problem did you want to solve with the business?

In order to cater to a larger market, most gluten-free businesses offer gluten-free products that are also dairy-free and vegan. But.. gluten-free doesn’t mean vegan or dairy-free. People with celiac disease are already on a restrictive diet and I wanted to offer my customers wholesome gluten-free cakes that are nutritious. The most wholesome ingredients in cake are eggs, milk and butter! Take that out and you’re really not left with much nutrition. Moreover, I follow old-school traditional recipes with no shortcuts and do not use any preservatives or additives.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

Moms! Moms looking for spectacular-looking, safe, nutritious, quality birthday cakes that “everyone” can fully enjoy.

I have also had the privilege of making wedding cakes for so many celiacs who wanted a delicious and safe option for their most special day.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

My business is online- you can order predesigned cakes online via my website or write to me for custom requests.

Where in the city can we find your profession?

My gluten-free cakes are produced in a commercial kitchen in Kirkland Quebec. Customers can pick up their orders by appointment.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.

Can I make my gluten-free cakes vegan or dairy-free? Yes! If a customer wants a dairy-free or egg-free or vegan cake because they have an intolerance or preference, I custom make it for them. It’s definitely possible!

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

The couples I made wedding cakes for are now ordering their baby shower cakes from me. It’s a joy to be able to contribute my creativity and talent to people’s most joyous occasions.

The worst part is having nightmares the night before a big event about the cake falling by accident.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?

“You can’t rush art” it’s a line from Toy Story 2.
