Montreal, CANADA — It’s estimated that more than 100,000 tracks are added daily to major streaming platforms. How does a new artist break through?
The answer is both simple and challenging: become undeniable.
For singer-songwriter Anour, becoming undeniable is a trajectory mapped by destiny and focus. She emerged with a handful of irrefutable songs, and has just released another, “Love Should Feel Good,” (5.22.26).
With this new release, Anour delves into the dramatic turmoil of romance and toward an “aha” moment. Moving away from the narrative that love must come with pain, the song is about the realization that love should be joyful, easy, and free.
“I kept making the same mistakes in love before I realized that it wasn’t only who I was choosing, but ideas I held about love that needed to be unlearned,” Anour says. “I had romanticized the struggle. After all, some of the greatest love stories are about tragedy or sacrifice, and when we tell each other that love is hard work, that it is not always easy, we can confuse intensity with passion and forget that love was never meant to cost you yourself. This is a simple song about a simple truth that should never be lost: love should feel good.”
Her debut single, “I Am,” quickly rose to more than 255,000 streams, propelled by one unique, timely, and insightful song. Reimagining René Descartes’ famous phrase, “I think, therefore I am,” for the AI age, the track channels an artificial intelligence’s existential awakening to consciousness. The song, combined with the striking presence of the artist herself, sparked a whirlwind of online speculation: is Anour real, or AI?
With “Love Should Feel Good,” Anour affirms that she is indeed real. She is human. She is beauty. She is thoughtfulness — a songwriter and performer exploring the tension between solitude and human connection, and the internal conversations that shape perception.
Working with members of Celine Dion’s team, her music is impeccably produced. Theatrical, atmospheric, and at times haunting, it defies genre. There is something mysterious about Anour, an artist who seemingly did not exist a mere few months ago. Yet music has long been part of her life. She began writing songs as a child, never intending to record or perform publicly. As soon as she learned piano, songwriting became a way to express emotions and ideas too complex for words alone.
Her influences are wide-ranging and include such artists as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, and Leonard Cohen. The intricacy of her music and lyrics reminds listeners of artists such as Adele, Leonard Cohen, and Kate Bush.
“I listened to a lot of jazz, and classical music was foundational for me because my mother is a classical pianist,” Anour says. “I was also surrounded by international music, especially music from the Arab world and French music: Fairuz, Édith Piaf, and Serge Gainsbourg, to name a few.”
Her true inspiration does not come solely from music, however. Like many influential songwriters, inspiration comes from life itself: books, films, politics, nature, and the emotional undercurrents of everyday existence. Anour observes, absorbs, and processes the art and stories around her, translating them into music that feels cinematic and deeply introspective.
“I’m drawn to ideas, to the space between what’s said and what’s heard, and I have a tendency to go down rabbit holes,” she said in a recent interview. “That’s what often finds its way into my music.”
Born in Damascus and emerging from Montreal, Anour channels her reflections on modern life into cinematic songs that feel like lucid dreams. Exploring identity and belonging in today’s world, her music exists in a realm where genres are merely suggestions, blending theatrical storytelling with eclectic influences that remain in perpetual dialogue. Her 14-track debut album is slated for release later in 2026.
Anour is managed by Fontis Entertainment and works with Blü Dog Media. You can follow her music and updates on Spotify and Instagram.
