“A Day in the Life” with: Writer Ann Cavlovic

Ann Cavlovic is an incredibly hard-working writer. On top of numerous short stories and essays published widely, she recently released her debut novel, Count On Me. She also holds down a full-time job and single parent in rural Outaouais, not far from Montreal. Part of how she’s achieved this is from a very strict schedule – squeezing in a set number of hours for writing per week (or minutes per day) – at times she’s written herself late slips for showing up at her desk past the appointed time. This may sound punitive, but it’s more about having the same level of commitment to her art as she does to her paid employment. And it works. Her novel Count On Me, which is about love and money colliding in a family with aging parents, has been getting great reviews, including in the Montreal Review of Books. Her writing often concerns itself with how money affects our intimate relationships, and also weaves in our relationship with our natural environment.
