Montreal’s waterfront will come alive with music, dance, food and cultural celebrations this summer as the AfroMonde Festival returns for its 18th edition from August 6 to 9, 2026.
Held at the Quai de l’Horloge in the Old Port of Montreal, the four day festival has grown into one of the city’s signature multicultural events, celebrating the rich diversity and creativity of African, Caribbean and Afro-descendant communities. Running daily from noon until 11 p.m., the festival welcomes visitors of all backgrounds to experience live performances, international cuisine, art, sports and family friendly activities.
Founded by Cameroonian born Agnès Mbome, AfroMonde began with a vision of creating a space where Afro-descendant cultures could be celebrated prominently in Montreal. Nearly two decades later, that vision has evolved into what organizers describe as Canada’s largest celebration of African heritage.
“This festival has spent 18 years proving that culture is the primary bridge between peoples. AfroMonde is not an event about Africa. It is a festival that radiates from Africa,” said Agnès Mbome, co-founder and executive director of the AfroMonde Foundation.
Visitors can expect much more than a concert series. The popular Allée des Saveurs offers a culinary tour through the flavours of Africa, the Caribbean and their global diasporas, while artisan vendors and cultural exhibitors showcase handmade goods, fashion, art and local businesses throughout the festival grounds.
The festival also features several dedicated spaces including the Black Forest Stage, Black Forest Cabaret and an exclusive VIP area. Those looking for a more active experience can take part in the AfroMonde Cup, a community tournament featuring soccer, basketball and fitness competitions open to participants of all backgrounds.
Each day of the festival has its own unique theme:
Thursday, August 6 – Afro Pop
The festival opens with a showcase of contemporary Afro inspired music featuring emerging and established artists.
Friday, August 7 – Afro Vibes
Electronic sounds, dance performances and immersive entertainment take over the waterfront for an energetic evening celebration.
Saturday, August 8 – Afro Unity
A day focused on intercultural dialogue, live performances and family friendly programming designed to bring communities together.
Sunday, August 9 – Afro Roots Carnival
The festival concludes with its colourful carnival celebration featuring vibrant costumes, percussion ensembles and a lively cultural parade.
Admission is $3.99 as part of the festival’s eco-friendly initiative, while children under 12 and adults aged 65 and older can attend free of charge.
With its combination of music, cuisine, cultural traditions and community spirit set against the backdrop of Montreal’s historic Old Port, the AfroMonde Festival continues to offer one of the city’s most distinctive summer experiences.
