Ruby Creek is a Montreal-based indie-folk trio featuring Nova Nastasia, Riley Wilson, and Ben Paquette. Known for their haunting vocal harmonies and intricate folk instrumentation, the band crafts a sound that feels both timeless and deeply personal. Their story began around a late-night campfire at a remote forestry camp, where their connection was immediate and undeniable. Since then, Ruby Creek has been weaving songs that explore the quiet complexities found in darkness, grief, and resilience. Rooted in folk, yet unafraid to explore new musical terrain, Ruby Creek’s sound is nuanced and evocative, with notable influences being Gillian Welch, Fleet Foxes, and Big Thief. In June 2025, they released their debut EP Forget Me Not, which coincided with a sold-out release show at Quai des Brumes, performed as a 7-piece band. Since then, they’ve taken their music across multiple provinces, steadily building a reputation for performances that are as immersive as they are emotionally raw. Ruby Creek is currently at work on their debut full-length album, while also planning their third tour.

Between the three of us, we’ve got a pretty vast range of music on rotation. Right now our top listens are going to Mitski, Robin Pecknold, and Die Spitz.

We usually all huddle together before a show and hype each other up; it’s very wholesome.

Our favourite local act right now is a folk trad duo called Hestiaa; they’re incredible.

We’re currently working on our first LP, so we’ll go with LP for now.
Early bird or night owl?
We’re night owls, 100%.
Road or studio?
Both are great for many reasons. They feed different things within us, like needing to get out of the city, or finally hearing our ideas come to fruition. We’ve had a lot of laughs in the studio, especially with Will Poulin at Sud-Ouest Recording. We recorded our first EP with him, and it was such a memorable experience. Although we’ll be getting to explore more parts of Canada and making new memories soon, for now, we’ll say studio.

What is your favourite local restaurant?
Would have to say Greenspot! We go there together when we are hungover, for birthdays, and breakups.
What is your favourite street in your city and why?
The corner of St Denis and Mont Royal. It’s a great corner for music; you’ve got L’Escogriffe and Quai des Brumes right next to each other, and we’ve made a lot of great memories there.
What is your favourite park in your city and why?
Laurier Park. One of us was living near there when we first became a band, so we had many practices under those trees. We actually wrote our song Tender Seeds in that park; it’s beautiful.
What is your favourite music venue in your city?
Quai des Brumes has been really good to us, and they’ve got a great sound team. It also has a rich music history. It’s been around since the 80’s and has a strong communal energy. It’s been a great spot for local musicians for a really long time, and you can feel that when you’re in there.
What is your favourite music store in your city?
Nantel is close to Nova’s house and the venues where we perform. It has saved us a few times.
