“A Day in the Life” with: Montréal Visual Artist Georgia Priniotakis

My mother, Georgia Priniotakis, has always seen the world a little differently; through vibrant colours, textures and dynamic light. She brings landscapes to life in a way that makes you feel like you are standing right there in the scene with her. From the island of Crete in Greece, Georgia grew up surrounded by creativity, with a family of musicians, writers, and artists. Art was always in her heart, and today she can fully dedicate her time to this passion.

Over time, with much enthusiasm, countless workshops, and a whole lot of practice, Georgia grew into the incredible artist and person she is today. She creates sceneries that are full of depth, capturing not just what she sees, but what she feels. She loves to paint outdoors, right in the middle of the landscapes she’s capturing, and every place she visits leaves a mark on her and her work.

To me, my mom’s art is more than just beautiful—it’s meaningful. Through her painting, she’s depicting the beauty of nature, and reminding us what we stand to lose if we don’t care for it. I honestly believe this is her purpose—to make us pause, look closer, and remember what matters.

Which hood are you in?

I presently live in Montreal, the Petit-Patrie-Rosemont district. A very inspiring, vibrant neighbourhood, with picturesque alleys- ruelles.

What do you do?

I regularly participate in workshops with other artists, such as in the area northeast of Montreal, Charlevoix, and Kamouraska. I give demos regularly and participate in Artists’ residencies, most recently in Brier Island, Nova Scotia, and in 2013, a six-month residency in Coaticook, Quebec.

For several years and ongoing, I have volunteered and donated paintings for the “Shield of Athena”, a nonprofit organization, against violence for women, at their annual art auction.

I am a member of several art associations, where I exhibit my work on a regular basis, as well as in solo exhibitions, over the years.

Founder member of Saint-Laurent artists’ association, signature member of Pastel Society of Eastern Canada. Past president of Dollard Artists Association.

The hard work and continuous practice have led to numerous recognitions and awards.

On my “free” time, I work in my studio, in Acrylic, when the weather permits, I paint outdoors, mostly in Soft pastel.

What are you currently working on?

Spring and summer are the busiest seasons for me, having numerous exhibitions to prepare for. Currently, there are three exhibits in Montreal in June. With different themes at different venues. I have luckily received the prospectus early on, so I am just doing last-minute touchups…The mission this spring is to revive or restore paintings which were rejects or unfinished, giving them a different life, by using different techniques and mediums…an experimental, trial and error state of affairs.!!!!

In the interim, I am working on several pastel paintings to be presented in the juried International exhibition in Quebec City, this October.

Where can we find your work?
