Bijal Shah has built a thriving business dedicated to transforming special-occasion flowers into lasting keepsakes. As the owner and chief designer of Bsbowzart: Floral Preservation, Shah uses techniques like pressing and silica preservation to capture the beauty of wedding bouquets, memorial flowers, and other cherished blooms. What began as a favour for a friend has blossomed into a full-fledged business, providing couples and families with a way to treasure their flowers long after the event has passed.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Bsbowzart: Floral Preservation. I preserve fresh flowers by pressing them or preserving in silica.
I work with Wedding Flowers, memorial flowers and any special occasions. I also have ready-to-sell products like Prints, cards, and notebooks printed with artwork created from pressed flowers. I am also working towards printing of fabric.
What made you want to do this work?
I have always been dabbling in art and handcrafting all my life. Moving to Montreal and having a baby in 2009 made me give up my career in sports psychology. I was approached by a friend to preserve her wedding flowers a few years ago and that spiralled into Bsbowzart: Floral Preservation.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
There was a lack of Floral Preservation artists in Montreal when I started and thought would help brides cherish their wedding flowers for years to come.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
My demographics are mainly young couples and mothers of the bride, florists and wedding planners.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
By preserving flowers for weddings, and memorials and doing seasonal holiday markets with the ready-to-sell products.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
I am based in Kirkland, in the western part of the island of Montreal, but I do accept orders from all over Canada. Brides ship their bouquets and once complete I ship their frames to them.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
Can we make gifts for family and friends with flowers? What are the options?
Sure we can make gifts from your flowers too. We offer a few different options: Smaller frames, candles and tapers, tree ornaments & Japanese Herbariums are a few examples.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part about my work is that I am able to work with natural beauties and create an everlasting memory. The worst part is letting go of a piece that you have worked on for about 6+ weeks
