Five Minutes With: Montréal Chamber Pop Musician Ambre Ciel

Ambre Ciel is the solo project of Jessica Hébert, a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer based in Montréal. Her music blends pop, neoclassical, and electronic influences, featuring compositions that range from vocal-driven piano pieces to dreamy instrumentals. Following her music studies, she released an EP, ‘Vague Distance’, in the winter of 2021, noted as one of the ‘best EPs of the year’ by Le Canal Auditif and nominated at GAMIQ. She is currently working on her debut album.

Favourite musician growing up:

My music tastes were always changing, but classical pieces, along with discovering violinist Andrew Bird and singer-songwriters like Thom Yorke and Patrick Watson, have influenced my musical journey towards music creation.

Favourite musician now:

I couldn’t decide within five minutes—they come in multitudes: Philip Glass, Claude Debussy, Agnes Obel, Nils Frahm, Sade, Thom Yorke, Alex Somers.

Guilty pleasure song:

Extended Circular Music No.2 by Jürg Frey. This piece eludes me each time I listen to it.

Live show ritual:

Ginger tea!

Favourite local musician:

Montreal has a beautiful music scene; I really like Thanya Iyer’s music.
