Five Minutes With: Sacred Wolf Singers X Simon Walls

Sacred Wolf Singers X Simon Walls is a groundbreaking collaboration that bridges traditional Mi’kmaq powwow music with the globally influenced Roots/Folk sound of Montreal music producer Simon Walls. This project is a bold deconstruction and decolonization of how powwow music is integrated into contemporary styles, honouring its deep traditions while pushing creative boundaries.

Seven years in the making, this collaboration was forged through a close artistic partnership between Tee Cloud, a Mi’kmaq traditional singer from the Metepenagiag community in New Brunswick—renowned for his performances at Eastern Canada’s powwows and his solo album Four Sacred Colours—and Simon Walls, whose genre-blending work includes collaborations with Zal Sissokho, Laura Niquay, Soleil Launière, Kanen, Claude McKenzie, Tarwa N-Tiniri, MIELS, and Naïma Frank.

The resulting album, L’nu’k Mawiejik, is a collection of 10 traditional songs, brought to life through live, in-the-moment recordings that capture the raw energy of the drum and the slide guitar. Featuring guest artists such as Laura Niquay, Juurini, and Tarwa N-Tiniri, each track explores different powwow styles while preserving the authenticity and stories behind the music.

More than just an album, L’nu’k Mawiejik is a milestone—an innovative approach to collaboration and a heartfelt tribute to powwow music. The vision is clear: to create music that allows every dancer to dance, every singer to sing along, and to introduce an even wider audience to the rich and powerful traditions of powwow music.
