“A Day in the Life” with: Comic Artist Paige Walshe

I can attest that Paige Walshe has been an artist her entire life, as I am her older sister. For 25 years, I’ve watched her grow from doodling on our bedroom walls to now publishing graphic novels that other kids will read at bedtime. Paige says a lot of her stories are inspired from childhood memories, which I feel lucky to have shared with her. I’ve witnessed her witty puns all throughout the years, and above all, the love that she pours into her family, her friends, and her art. Froggy is truly a reflection of the bright and colourful world that we live in together. I’m happy to hear that readers see themselves through the friendships and characters in Froggy, too. Paige’s work is made to make people smile, and I’ve seen her do just that at artist pop-ups, markets, and conventions. I’m so proud of my little sister for bringing magic into everyone else’s world with Froggy, just like how she has done for me for my entire life.

Drawing some comics on my tablet. My cat, Goose, provides motivation.

Working at my desk surrounded by art that I’ve collected over the past several years. It’s a mix of pieces from friends, local artists, and other illustrators. The beautiful art around my office inspires me to create.
Prepping prints, stickers, etc. for future displays and conventions. These framed pieces will be displayed at Cafe Mina Mina in April.
Break time! My other cat, Gator, loudly demands to play fetch for a bit, which also reminds me to get up and stretch.
Emails, drawing, writing, scheduling, posting, editing–my eyes are unfortunately getting a lot of screen time. I try to combat this more by thumbnailing on paper.
Most days I’ll walk around for some fresh air and exercise. Working from home can get repetitive and quiet, so a session at the library, a walk around the park, or meeting with a friend helps shake things up!

I usually wind down with some relaxing reading or crafting. I love crocheting, and I’m slowly trying to improve on knitting and sewing.

A lot of my work is very soft, silly and wholesome, so my personal drawings often embrace horror. Nature and magic are the elements that carry through all my art.

Which ’hood are you in?

I grew up just outside of Toronto, and moved to Montreal in 2018. I’ve bounced around several neighbourhoods–I’m currently in Lasalle!

What do you do?

I am a writer and illustrator of comics. I love to tell stories, whether it’s with a long-form graphic novel, a 4-panel webcomic, or a single drawing. Most of them are full of goofy puns, wild expressions, and cozy environments. I aim to create worlds that feel like a warm hug when you dive in.

What are you currently working on?

I’m always working on more frogs. I’ve got my graphic novel series (the second installment, Autumn Antics, comes out this July) and the webcomic, which follows the same little critters on different adventures in a slice-of-life format. I’m also branching out into new exciting stories that I can’t say much about yet. When I can, I squeeze in time to draw some fun, spooky scenes.

Where can we find your work?

You can find all my comics and socials (Instagram, Bluesky, Webtoon, etc.), as well as any events I’ll be participating in, on my website. Come find me at the Montreal Comic Arts Festival this May!
