Isabelle Arsenault was born in the wilderness of Northeast Quebec, where her deep connection to nature first took root. She later moved to the vibrant city of Montreal to study illustration through the Graphic Design program at UQAM. After graduating, she began her career in editorial illustration, developing a distinctive visual voice before transitioning into children’s literature. Her debut book earned her the Governor General’s Literary Award, marking a significant milestone and launching her path as a celebrated illustrator.
Over the years, she continued to refine her style through picture books and graphic novels, exploring storytelling with sensitivity and imagination. Her work has received international recognition, and many of her books have been translated into multiple languages, reaching readers around the world. Today, she focuses on personal book projects that reflect her artistic vision.
While building her creative career, Isabelle also raised two boys, shared a home filled with life—including a dog—and partnered with her husband, a publisher. Together, they cofounded a non-profit organization dedicated to illustration named LEPORELLO, working to create a unique space where illustration can be recognized and appreciated as a true art form.

Which ’hood are you in?
A foot in NDG, in Montreal and the other in Knowlton, in the Eastern Townships.
What do you do?
I’m illustrating books, and sometimes I’m writing them as well. I also manage a non-profit organization I co-founded named LEPORELLO. It’s an illustration residency, a gallery, a studio and a shop dedicated to illustration, in the heart of Knowlton, Quebec.
What are you currently working on?
I’m working on a graphic book that is totally different from what I have done in the past. I like exploring and trying new ways of telling stories. I’m also spending a lot of time working at LEPORELLO, but it’s giving me so much in return. We have exciting things coming up.
Where can we find your work?
You can find my new book here. More of my work is on my website, Instagram or Facebook.
