“A Day in the Life” with: Montréal Multidisciplinary Artist Niti Mueth

Niti Mueth is not into speaking just to fill the air; she understands the power of words. Using her own handwritten typeface, Niti’s thoughtful texts can feel like a hug, a warm cup of tea, a safe space, a check-in, or a wake-up call. Her words are paired with illustrations of intimate settings where friends, partners, or solitary figures contemplate and confide in each other or themselves. Her colour palette appears simultaneously saturated and dimmed, mirroring the stimulating discourse spoken in an indoor voice. Recently, she has been experimenting with collage and abstraction, exploring new ways of conveying emotions. Whether figurative or abstract, she applies her graphic design expertise to create bold and purposeful compositions.

Growing up neurodivergent and raised by first-generation immigrant parents, Niti often faced unkindness from others. Art became her refuge, allowing her to express herself freely and gain recognition. Over the years, she has extended the shelter she’s built, welcoming people of diverse backgrounds to engage in difficult conversations and skill sharing through projects like Learning Loop. Because Black women artists are still underrepresented and because honesty and vulnerability are not values inherent to capitalism, Niti’s work is considered political, though she wouldn’t describe it that way herself. Her clothing brand Arts & Crack, with slogans like “culture over clout,” has more of an overt edge. Niti exudes kindness and compassion, but she can always dish out sass and hold others accountable when necessary, reflecting her commitment to authenticity.
