BoConcept is a Danish furniture brand known for its stylish, high-quality designs, introduced to Quebec by Owner and General Manager Hani Hamze in 2012. The brand caters to both residential and commercial clients, offering exceptional design and craftsmanship. In this interview, Hamze discusses his journey from being an architect to bringing BoConcept to Quebec, the unique value he aims to bring to homes, and the essence of personalized, functional, and beautiful living spaces.
What is your business called and what does it do?
I’m the Owner and General Manager of BoConcept in Quebec. BoConcept is a Danish furniture brand that I introduced to Quebec back in 2012. We offer stylish, high-quality furniture for both residential and commercial clients. BoConcept is globally renowned for its exceptional design and craftsmanship and I’m thrilled to bring that to the people of Quebec.
What made you want to do this work?
I’ve always been passionate about design—whether it’s architecture, furniture or the way a space comes together. I’m actually an Architect by training and over the years, I realized that interior design spoke to me just as much as designing buildings. When I moved to Canada in 2008, I began looking for a business opportunity that would combine my passion for design and my entrepreneurial spirit. BoConcept turned out to be a perfect match, both as a brand and a business model.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
I wanted to make people’s homes more than just places to live; I wanted to help make them comfortable, functional and beautiful—spaces that truly reflect each person’s unique lifestyle and needs. Furniture shopping can be overwhelming, especially when you don’t have the right experience to navigate the sea of choices. My goal is to make that process easier and more enjoyable, guiding people toward pieces that really enhance their lives.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Our clients are those who appreciate the finer things in life—design, comfort, functionality and quality. They see furniture as an investment in their home and lifestyle rather than just an expense. Many of our clients are design-conscious individuals who want their homes to feel as unique as they are.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
Our primary source of revenue is furniture sales. Everything else we offer—like design consultations and space planning—is complimentary. These services are there to help our customers make informed decisions and create spaces that truly work for them.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
BoConcept is a global brand with a presence in cities around the world. Here in Quebec, we’re proud to serve our local community, bringing the same passion and design expertise to every project at 621 Boulevard Le Corbusier. Here is a link to more information about our store.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
The best question to ask is, “Where should I start and how should I approach my project?” The answer is simple: start by understanding your space, your personal style and how you live day-to-day. These three elements are the foundation of any great project.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part is meeting new people and getting to work closely with them in their spaces. It’s incredibly rewarding to help someone transform their home into something they truly love. The hardest part? Saying goodbye when a project is completed. It’s always a little bittersweet, like leaving behind a piece of yourself in each project.
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
Why did the interior designer practice yoga? Because balance is everything in a room layout! It really is, too!
Where can we follow you?
PAY IT FORWARD: What is another local business that you love?
I’m a big fan of Bang & Olufsen—another Danish brand, just like BoConcept! They offer premium audio products that elevate the experience of any space and their design ethos aligns beautifully with ours. They’re located in Montreal at 6555 Saint-Denis St.
