MovingWaldo is a Montreal-based digital marketplace that simplifies and secures the moving process by helping Canadians compare quotes and book trusted movers entirely online. We spoke with Guillaume Lahoud, Co-founder and Head of Product, alongside Philippe Tardif-Michaud, Co-founder and Head of Growth, to learn how their platform is protecting customers from scams, saving them time and money, and changing the way people move across Canada.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Our business is called MovingWaldo. It’s a unique marketplace for moving services that simplifies and secures the moving process for individuals and families. Our technology allows users to compare moving estimates in real time and book thoroughly vetted movers entirely online. We provide a safe, stress-free experience that saves time and money.
What made you want to do this work?
Early in his career, our co-founder, Guillaume, had to move frequently for work across Canada. Each move was unnecessarily complicated, and the process was outdated, which made him realize there had to be a better way, so MovingWaldo was born.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
The moving industry is one of the most unregulated, and unfortunately, people often get scammed when final costs end up being much higher than their original quote. We wanted to change that. Our Waldo Verified process thoroughly vets moving companies to ensure they’re trustworthy and reliable.
Additionally, searching for movers and gathering quotes is incredibly time-consuming, so we created a platform that offers instant online quotes using a smart algorithm. It helps users compare prices in minutes and book 100% online, saving a lot of time and hassle.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Our users are often people who are too busy or overwhelmed to handle all aspects of a move: from organizing and packing to heavy lifting and transportation. Many of our clients are families, professionals or seniors who simply don’t have the time to move themselves. They rely on us to handle the logistics while our algorithm helps them find the best deals.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
We work with a network of trusted movers across Canada. When someone books a move through our platform, we earn a commission from the moving company. This doesn’t increase the customer’s cost; in fact, they save on average 30% on moving services, which amounts to multiple hundreds of dollars. By streamlining admin and marketing tasks for movers, we help reduce their costs, and they stay competitive with pricing on our platform.

Everywhere! Our network of professional movers is on the road daily, safely transporting our users’ belongings. In Montreal, some of our most well-known partners include Déménagement Le Capitaine, All Access Moving, Doctor Mover, and Flex Déménagement.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
We’ve been asked this before, and once again, there aren’t many moving-related jokes out there. Maybe that’s a good thing! We like to think the silence is a compliment to our work.
