Five Minutes With: Montréal Sound Artist Kathy Kennedy

Kathy Kennedy is a sound artist whose practice bridges visual art, classical singing, and technology. Centred on the voice, her work often incorporates telephony, radio transmission, and experiments with how sound interacts with public and physical spaces. She is also a committed community artist, co-founding both Studio XX (now Ada-X), a feminist digital media centre, and Chœur Maha, an innovative women’s choir. Her large-scale sonic installation-performances—“sonic choreographies” for voice and radio—as well as her HMMM series, have been presented internationally. Kennedy currently teaches music at Concordia University in Montreal.
