Five Minutes With: Folk-Rock Musician Noé Talbot

A youthful dream of making rock music his life that evolved into a career in Quebec songwriting—this is the still palpable essence of the Noé Talbot project. Over melodies oscillating between folk, pop, urban music, and—indeed—a pinch of rock, Noé Talbot offers his comforting poetry to our weary souls, depicting the profound and growing solitude of our era.

If rock is entering men less and less, one cannot say it can be removed from them. Or perhaps so. At first glance, one might not suspect that a former high school French teacher, who published a children’s book, would have such a compelling artistic journey. First and foremost, a philosopher of the soul and a lover of words, he has shared this devouring passion through his bittersweet works for over 15 years. Including dates from all his projects, he has accumulated nearly 1,000 shows, including 20 European tours, not to mention over 50 releases (albums, EPs, and singles). With his Noé Talbot project alone, he has already released three full-length albums, six EPs, and several radio singles. He returned in 2025 with a fourth album, Mourir pour le rock (Dying for Rock), this time accompanied by a board game of his own creation.

EP or LP?

Definitely LP – it gives time to build a coherent piece of art where the songs are related to one another.

Early bird or night owl?

Night owl, buuut with my wife working up early and me sometimes working in high schools, I guess I cannot live my full owl life.

Road or studio?

A mix of both. I like being on the road, but not so much doing a lot of drive. I love being in studio, but it’s a lot of time alone, which gets boring and also a lot of back pain. So I’d say a mix of both is the best.

Any shows or albums coming up?

Yeah. A lot of shows all around Quebec during the springtime. This summer I’m heading back to Europe for the 17th time! It’s gonna be fun!
