Five Minutes With: Goth Rock Artist Avrsans

Emerging from Montreal’s music scene, Avrsans is a rising emo/goth rock artist who began his project in 2024. With one album already released (Porcelain Hearts) and a second in the works, his sound is still evolving but carries the raw, emotional energy that defines his artistry. Blending vulnerable lyricism with gritty rock textures, Avrsans isn’t afraid to push boundaries, whether in the studio or on stage. His collaborations span continents—most recently teaming up with longtime UK friend Tyler Tranquil for the single My Own Grave. Drawing inspiration from legends like Paul Stanley of KISS to contemporary voices like Josh Katz of Badflower, Avrsans is carving out his own space in rock with honesty, energy, and grit.

I don’t know if I would attach myself to a specific genre yet, I’m still exploring my sound but currently I’d say I lean more into the emo/goth rock genre

Favourite musician growing up:

Paul Stanley. KISS was the first band I ever got into. They got me into music, and Paul Stanley’s playing, voice, and personality made me want to pick up a guitar and play.

Favourite musician now:

Josh Katz. He’s the singer of Badflower. He’s been through so much, and his music is so vulnerable and emotional. He’s an artist I really connect with on multiple levels.

Guilty pleasure song:

Honestly, I’d have to say my current guilty pleasure song has to be Manchild by Sabrina Carpenter. I don’t know what it is. Her music is like ear candy, and I won’t apologize.

Live show ritual:

My live show ritual would probably have to be taking a shot or having a drink with the guys in the live band—just to tame some of those nerves.

Favourite local musician:

Resonance! They’re amazing, extremely talented, and really cool dudes.

EP or LP?

I would definitely say LP. I feel like a good LP can tell the story through music that most EPs just can’t.

Early bird or night owl?

I’m 100% a night owl.

Road or studio?

Road. Nothing beats playing in front of a crowd.

Hawgs! Nothing hits like a Pizzaghetti at 2 am.

Mount Royal. It’s beautiful and there’s always so much to do.

I’d say Beaver Lake. I know it’s not really a park, but it’s a beautiful spot.

What is your favourite music venue in your city?

Mtelus. Mainly because I’ve seen some of my favourite artists like Badflower and Ice Nine Kills perform there.

What is your favourite music store in your city?

Aux 33 Tours—it’s a record store, but when I walk in there, I feel like a kid in a candy shop.
