Homegrown Business: Lea Berger of Canada Beergarden

In Montréal, Lea Berger is bringing a taste of European tradition to local spaces through Canada Beergarden. Specializing in authentic, German-imported beergarden table and bench sets, the company offers a practical, stylish alternative to traditional outdoor seating—designed to fold, store easily, and bring people together.

Rooted in Berger’s upbringing in Germany and now celebrating a decade in business, Canada Beergarden serves restaurants, breweries, and design-minded clients looking to add both function and atmosphere to their spaces. From its cozy Mile-End showroom to partnerships with retailers like Maison Simons, the business blends heritage, craftsmanship, and a hands-on family approach.

For Berger, it’s not just about furniture—it’s about creating gathering spaces that feel effortless, welcoming, and built for connection.

What is your business called and what does it do?

Canada Beergarden offers authentic Beergarden Sets — tables and benches that fold easily for convenient storage. Each set is imported directly from Germany.

What made you want to do this work?

Originally from Germany, I’ve called Montreal home for the past 25 years. Beergarden furniture has been part of my life since childhood—these versatile indoor and outdoor tables and benches are a familiar sight across Germany, from open-air breweries and parks to restaurant terraces, canteens, and flea markets.

What problem did you want to solve with the business?

I decided to import a set—one table and two benches—not just for the nostalgia, but also for the practicality. They’re easy to set up, simple to store, and fold away effortlessly when not in use. This simple design and functionality of the Beergarden Sets have made the traditional heavy picnic table a thing of the past.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

Restaurant owners, breweries, architects, and anyone who has travelled to Europe can bring a touch of that nostalgia to their own courtyard or space.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

We hold exclusive rights to Beergarden sets across Canada. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we’ve been approached by Maison Simons for a collaboration, and they are now carrying the product I always felt was missing in the country. We’re thrilled—Prost!

Where in the city can we find your profession?

We’re located in the artistic, food-loving neighbourhood of Le Plateau-Mont-Royal/ Mile-End. Our showroom may be small, but it’s full of European flair, and customer love to discover our little showroom.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.

We’re a family business, and you’ll feel it in the way we approach every sale—with care and attention to each customer. What began as a collaboration with my father in Germany has grown into something truly meaningful: partnering with an organization that supports social initiatives, and now involving our own children in delivery and logistics. We also work with a warehouse run by a father and daughter—a partnership that reflects our story and values.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

We NEED to discover and test all restaurants, breweries, festivals where the table are part of it!
When Summer ends.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?

People sometimes think we’re a multinational company, expecting a huge truck and uniformed staff to deliver the Sets—but in reality, we still handle personal deliveries ourselves, often with our old Volkswagen Golf hatchback!

Where can we follow you?
