Born in Montreal, Annette Wolfstein-Joseph was always drawn to printmaking. She attended Concordia University, in Art Education and Printmaking, studying there with Barry Wainwright and Yves Gaucher. Graduating with a BFA, she moved to New York City, teaching art at DeWitt Clinton High School and joining the Pratt Institute Printing Workshop, where she continued working in etching. Returning to Montreal after two years, she became a member of the Printmaking Atelier of the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts School of Fine Arts where she continued to be an active printmaker for thirty-three years until the closing of the Centre in 2007. Her last nine years there she served as Head of Printmaking and teacher of etching. She now continues to print in her own studio and exhibits widely both locally and internationally. Annette is a member of Atelier Circulaire, an esteemed printmaking workshop in Montreal, where some of her work is available in their gallery. She is in many collections including Bibliotheque Nationale du Quebec and the National Bank of Canada.
After exploring different experiences in her life, her work has included series about her neighbourhood, boating on Lake Champlain, scenes from her life as seen from beyond her feet, and currently, the growth witnessed in her garden.

Which ‘hood are you in?
I reside in the Town of Montreal West, where I have lived since my parents bought a home here when I was ten years old, so I have become something of a fixture around town, often exhibiting in the Town Hall showcases, etc.
What do you do?
My principal medium is etching, which I create on copper plates bitten in acid and print on my press in my atelier.
What are you currently working on?
My current subject is my garden and the life I find within its borders: flowers, vegetables, fruit and all sorts of vegetation.
Where can we find your work?
You can view my work on my website. I am also represented by Atelier Circulaire in Montreal, The Campbell Gallery in Westmount, Open Studio in Toronto, and am a member of AIM (Artists in Montreal) and WASM (Womens’ Art Society of Montreal).
