Mint Simon is the solo project of the front person of Indie Pop band, Caveboy. Their music is a sonic and lyrical exploration of love, missed opportunities, desire and sexual liberation. Mint is using this as a vehicle for self-discovery and expression, as they develop their unique musical sound as a solo act while sharing their journey of self-acceptance with captivating and effortlessly catchy pop tunes. Leather, pleather, shimmer n’ glimmer – they are unapologetically queer – a pop prince tapping into their 80s and 90s influences while being unabashedly themselves and having zero restrictions.

Live show ritual:
I try and get some energy in that day, get my heart rate up. Lots of breathing and stretching and a solid vocal warm-up. I also listen to music and pump myself up right before going on stage!
Favourite local musician:
I’m nostalgic for the days of Majical Cloudz ♥️
EP or LP?
LP, no question. I’m still of the mentality of wanting to listen to an album front to back and over again.
Early bird or night owl?
Early bird. I love a morning routine and how quiet the city is, with a little peak of sunrise.
Road or studio?
There’s nothing like performing, I don’t think anything could compare to getting on stage and that energy exchange. But I also really enjoy that moment in the studio when you know you’ve written something that really hits you.
Any shows or albums coming up?
Eyes can be peeled for some new singles in the new year, working towards my debut full-length album which I can’t wait to share.

Rapid Fire Local Questions:
What is your favourite local restaurant?
Sushi Momo – amazing vegan sushi
What is your favourite street in your city and why?
I love Saint Laurent. I love that you can travel from old Montreal, through the plateau, into Mile End and Little Italy. It’s an adventure through the city.
What is your favourite park in your city and why?
Very into a good stroll on Mount Royal, but Jarry Park really got me through COVID-19. I liked to call it the ‘retirement loop’ and I still feel strongly about that path.
What is your favourite music venue in your city?
I love the Corona Theatre!
What is your favourite music store in your city?
I would have to say the old Steve’s location, because I have so many memories there from buying my first keyboard to getting gear for my band.
