“A Day in the Life” with: Montréal Visual Artist Florence Rivest

There’s an obvious, colourful thread running through the life of Florence Rivest. From a creative, summer camp gal leading canoe outings to a professional artist offering workshops in nature, it’s all connected. Through illustrations for lifestyle brands and goods, her personal painting practice, or outdoor workshops with Erre, she approaches work with a steady purpose and sensibility that invites you in. Her multifaceted career is grounded by a simple, essential idea: engaging with nature, with others, and with ourselves. Ideally all at once. Equal parts profound and playful, her practice is a true reflection of herself and the beautiful things found all around.

Which ’hood are you in?

I live in Plateau East, which is in my opinion the best part of the Plateau. The walking score is something like 99: I’ve got two parks nearby, great cafés and, cherry on top, an art supplies store within 1 km.

What do you do?

I’m an illustrator, artist, and I also guide art workshops and expeditions through my project Erre. I’m basically living out little Florence’s dreams, to be honest.

What are you currently working on?

Let’s see… I just wrapped up a series of illustrations for a cider brand, I’m working on merch for the region where I’m from and for an agricultural project, doing the cover art for a band from Quebec City, sketching for a carpet collaboration project, starting to work on a new painting exhibition and planning the upcoming workshops with Erre.

Where can we find your work?

You can find it in the canned sauces and stews aisle at the supermarkets on Cordon Bleu’s new branding by LG2, alongside Philippe Dionne Bussières’ great design for Den Cabins, in every SEPAQ’s offices in Québec and on Park Poisson Blanc‘s merch, just to name a few.
