Tragedy Plus Time: Montréal Comedian Lawrence Corber

Lawrence Corber is a sharp, self-aware comedian who finds humour in life’s quirks and frustrations. Inspired by his loud Jewish family and the odd characters he’s encountered along the way, his comedy is a mix of clever wit and subtle absurdity. Whether getting heckled at a curling rink or questioning his life choices before a show, Lawrence turns every moment into a story worth telling.

Lawrence Corber

How would you describe your comedy style?

My comedy style is like a warm cup of Mountain Dew best enjoyed sitting on a window sill staring longingly at a winter landscape.

Who are some of your influences?

My loud Jewish family and that one coworker who CC’d my boss on every menial email.

Who was your favourite comedian growing up?

George Carlin

Who is your favourite comedian now?

The hologram of George Carlin that crushed at Osheaga

What is your pre-show ritual?

Question every decision I have ever made that has led me to this point. A solemn prayer to the dark comedy gods to imbue me with the evil gift of mirth. Have a smoke and a pee.

What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?

I once performed at a curling rink during league play and got heckled because I ruined a shot by making the skipper laugh

What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?

That’s a real Sophie’s choice for me. Gotta say the one about the quality of aeroplane food being of a lower quality than regular food.

What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?

My bookie for bare-knuckle boxing has exquisite taste. Never misses

Tell us a joke about your city

Did you hear about the bridge that got fixed? Me neither. HOLD FOR APPLAUSE

Do you have anything to promote right now?

I have an album coming out in the next few months and would love it if people would take some time to check it out

Where can we follow you?

Instagram

PAY IT FORWARD: Who is another local comic/comedian we should know about?
