I have known Bob Bachelor since 1984, and we have a long, rich history of working together on numerous productions, both with The Lyric Theatre Singers and other companies. When I first met Bob, he was musical directing Annie for The Lyric Theatre, and my dad was playing the role of Daddy Warbucks. I was still living at home, and Bob came over for dinner to do a special vocal coaching session with my dad for his solos. That evening gave me my first real insight into how dedicated, passionate, and devoted Bob is to all his musical endeavours. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a decades-long collaboration and friendship.
At Lyric, Bob has worn nearly every hat imaginable: musical director, stage director, producer, arranger, actor, and now, for several years, Artistic Director. Every role he takes on, he embraces with flair! His unwavering dedication, meticulous attention to detail, and deep passion never cease to amaze me. He’s been a major musical influence, especially in the Broadway repertoire, and over the years, he’s become my mentor, vocal coach, collaborator, and most cherished of all, my friend.
Bob is also an amazing gardener; he has an impressive garden in his city home and an awe-inspiring garden in Victoriaville, which he shares with his husband. He’s also an excellent cook, and many of our collaborative meetings involve recipe sharing and eating together, including family nights where he and my son cook up amazing gourmet meals for us all to enjoy. I have been very fortunate to benefit from Bob’s many gifts from his garden and kitchen.
