Deepa Nallappan, based in Montréal, Canada, is a dedicated practitioner, performer, and instructor of Bharatanatyam. Renowned for her fervour, expertise, and elegance, Deepa views dance as a potent form of expression that metamorphoses the dancer into a completely different persona on the stage. Trained in Bharatanatyam by Guru Sri M Swamy and Smt. Jyothi Pattabhiram, Deepa has delivered numerous memorable performances. She is also proficient in Mohiniattam and Yakshagana, showcasing her talents at prestigious events in various major cultural centres such as Chidambaram Natyanjali, Brahan Natyanjali, Natyatharanga, Nruthya Samagama, and more.
With a mission to pass on the intricacies of Bharatanatyam to the next generation, Deepa imparts training to children and aspiring young talents. As the Artistic Director of “Param des Arts,” a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Indian Classical arts in Montreal, Deepa plays a pivotal role. She is the visionary behind the Montréal Natyanjali festival in Montreal, an annual event around Maha Shivaratri in February/March. This festival unites artists from diverse classical backgrounds to pay homage to Lord Shiva, drawing participants from across Canada and North America.

What do you do?
I serve as the artistic director of Param des Arts, where I practice Bharathanatyam as an artist, performer, and teacher based in Montreal.
What are you currently working on?
Currently, I’m engaged in artistic projects with Param des Arts for the World Dance Day celebration, as well as preparing for a showcase featuring my students in July.
