From the moment Ginny Morello could hold a crayon, it was clear that drawing was going to be a lifelong passion for my daughter. Inspired, perhaps, by her parents’ shared love of art, she showed an uncanny talent from a very young age—at just two years old, she surprised us all by drawing a face complete with eyes and a mouth, a rare feat for a toddler. As she grew, so did her abilities. Each year, her dedication to practice and refine her craft was evident, and watching her skills evolve has been one of the greatest joys of my life.
I vividly remember the pride and amazement I felt every time she came to me, beaming with excitement, to share her latest work. Even now, her mastery of technique leaves me in awe. Whether it’s through a time-lapse video or standing before one of her pieces in person, the detail and emotion she brings to her art never fails to move me.
One of my proudest moments was seeing her host her first solo exhibition a few years ago. I can only imagine what the future holds for her, and I can’t wait to witness everything she continues to achieve.

Which ‘hood are you in?
I am currently living in the quiet borough of Lasalle, in a luminous apartment that also serves as my art studio.
What do you do?
I am a visual artist specializing in hyperrealistic portraits. My mediums are charcoal and graphite. Creating a hyperrealistic drawing is a slow but fulfilling process. Most of the time, I take my own reference photo and then proceed to recreate it in my own way, using a specific array of techniques including shading, highlighting, blending, and adding minuscule details. I am fascinated by human faces and love to capture the beauty and intricacy of each person’s unique features. I am also currently working a full-time office job, but I try to spend as much of my free time as I can on my art. My dream is to one day become a full-time artist.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on a large hyperrealistic portrait of a woman (still need to find a title!), and it is the piece I have spent the longest on, totalling 245 hours so far. I am really hoping to finish it this year!
