“A Day in the Life” with: Montréal Visual Artist Jeraume

When I sign new artists at Paperole, I look for unique styles with a recognizable signature. Jeraume’s graphic universe instantly captivated me. Originally from Quebec and based in Montreal for over 10 years, Jeraume has quickly made a name for himself in the local design and illustration scene, and his works are particularly sought after.

Passionate about architecture, everyday objects, and the great classics of 20th-century furniture, he excels in depicting lived-in interiors and iconic design objects. His preferred tool, the wooden pencil, along with his realistic approach enriched by a palette of often primary colours, gives his works a human and authentic dimension that stands out in the landscape of contemporary illustration, which is heavily influenced by digital art.

In my eyes, Jeraume follows an unconventional path: he is an artist whose practice deserves a place in museums. Yet, he chooses to share his talent with the wider public, refusing to snub applied art, much to the delight of those fortunate enough to live with his drawings. Collaborating with him is a true privilege, and I am honoured that he trusts me to print his works at Paperole.

Which neighbourhood are you in?

I currently live in the Villeray neighbourhood of Montreal. I have moved around a lot over the years in different neighbourhoods of the metropolis, and I must admit there is something warm about the neighbourhood where I am now. It’s actually the first place I settled when I arrived in Montreal over ten years ago. Living close to Plaza Saint-Hubert, it’s one of my favourite places to walk, shop, eat, and drink for inspiration.

What do you do?

To start, I am a visual artist, mainly practising drawing with coloured pencils. I am also an illustrator and creative director. I have worked for magazines, musical artists, performance venues, clothing brands, coffee roasters, and even wine bottles, among others.

What are you currently working on?

I am always working on two or three projects at the same time: whether they are collaborations, personal projects, or larger commissions. I just finished Christmas cards, a t-shirt for a high-performance road bike brand, illustrations for a magazine, and an album cover, among other things. My projects are extremely varied, and that’s what I love most!

Where can we find your work?

You can find several of my originals at Le Livart gallery-boutique in Montreal, while also discovering other artists alongside me. Additionally, as a permanent artist at the Paperole boutique and publishing house, this allows me to be sold in several stores across Quebec (and even further, I believe!). Otherwise, I appear temporarily here and there while developing larger commissions that will be very visible very soon!
