What is your channel called and what is it about?

My Instagram page is called @gigi.in.mtl, where I share all my favourite discoveries, whether it’s a trendy new restaurant, a fun activity to do with friends, or a must-visit destination in and around Montreal.

When did you start it? What motivated you at the beginning?

I started the page in 2018, initially just posting pictures of dishes from the restaurants I visited. Over time, I began getting contracts, and it naturally evolved into a passion project.

Who were you inspired by? Any influences?

At the time, there weren’t many creators doing what I was doing locally, but I found inspiration in food photographers like Skyler Burt and Joanie Simon.

How would you describe your audience?

My audience is mainly made up of young professionals who enjoy discovering beautiful things in life from great food to vibrant experiences.

What is your creative process? Do you have people who work with you?

I do everything myself, from photography and editing to writing and publishing. Sometimes I’ll ask friends to appear in my photos, but otherwise, I manage every aspect of the content. It’s a lot of work, but I enjoy having full creative control.

How do you monetize your content? Do you also have another job?

Over the years, I’ve built a strong network of recurring clients who trust me with their campaigns. I’m lucky to receive more offers than I can accept. Content creation is something I do part-time, while I also work full-time in my field of study.

What is your favourite piece of content you’ve created?

What is the best part about what you do? And the worst?

The best part is the people I get to meet fellow content creators who become lifelong friends, chefs, entrepreneurs, and agency teams who make Montreal such a vibrant city.

The downside is the perception of the job. Many people still think content creation is effortless or not a “real” job. But in reality, it takes countless hours of work every week. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it!

What are your future plans for your channel?

I don’t aspire to make content creation my full-time job. I prefer keeping it as a passion project, something that brings me joy without the pressure of being my main income source.

PAY IT FORWARD: Who is another Canadian content creator that you love?

I recommend @mtlcharles, a true pillar of the Asian, and especially Vietnamese, community in Montreal.
