Spooky the dog is looking for a new home in the Montréal area

Spooky is a 3-year-old dog who had a difficult start in life. With very little socialization and left largely on his own during his early months, he had to learn many things later in life that most dogs experience as puppies: living in a home, climbing stairs, hearing everyday household noises, meeting people, and discovering the world around him.

Despite his challenging past, Spooky has made remarkable progress. At home, he is an affectionate, intelligent companion who forms deep bonds with his people. He loves to play, fetch, learn new tricks, and spend time with those he knows and trusts. Food-motivated, curious, and highly sensitive, he develops strong connections with anyone willing to earn his trust.

Where Spooky still struggles significantly is in urban environments. The constant noise, movement, unfamiliar people, and overwhelming stimulation of city life cause him a great deal of anxiety. On walks, he can be reactive toward strangers and certain environmental triggers.

For this reason, we are looking for a calm environment for Spooky, ideally in the countryside or in a quiet rural or suburban area with minimal traffic and few stimuli. His future adopters should have a good understanding of canine behaviour or be willing to continue the work that has already been started with patience, compassion, and consistency.

Spooky may be a good match for a single person or a couple without young children. Around other dogs, he is generally enthusiastic and playful, though proper introductions remain important. He has also lived around cats before, but he does enjoy chasing them (without aggressive intent).

Beneath his anxiety about the outside world is an incredibly loyal, sensitive, and lovable dog. His foster family describes him as a companion with exceptional loyalty and tremendous potential. Anyone willing to invest time and effort in him will discover a deeply devoted, grateful dog with so much love to give!
