Robert Tsonos is a theatre guy. He began his career as a stage actor but over the past 30 years has consistently also worked as a director, playwright, dramaturge, producer, and has been the Artistic Director of Watermark Theatre in PEI for the past 10 years. Robert splits his time between Montreal and PEI. He has worked across Canada and around the world – Tokyo, Hong Kong, Venezuela, England, and Australia. Robert works at a very high level of professionalism, artistry, and talent, consistently making his productions of the highest quality on par with the best in the country. Robert is an award-winning, published playwright. His upcoming play, It’s Time, won the Uprising National Playwriting Competition. He grew up in DDO and still spends time in the West Island with his mom and twin brother. He and his partner, Yannick are often taking day trips around Montreal to Trois-Rivières, Oka, Terrebonne, etc. He’s an avid sportsman, playing volleyball and tennis weekly, and loves to cook.

What do you do?
I am a playwright, director, actor, and Artistic Director of Watermark Theatre in North Rustico, PEI. The theatre has two productions currently running until the end of August. “Ken Ludwig’s Dear Jack, Dear Louise” directed by Robert Tsonos and “The Woman in Black” by Stephen Mallatratt, based on the novel by Susan Hill, directed by Rahul Gandhi.

It’s Time by Robert Tsonos – The rise of China, the fall of America, cultural stereotyping, sexism, and a new world order – large themes come in small packages in this two-hander about a Chinese businesswoman who fires an American businessman at an international financial services company in Hong Kong during the global financial crisis of 2008. An intentionally provocative portrait of the complex, divided, interdependent, and explosive relationship between these two giant nations. A tour de force opportunity for two actors, guaranteed to provoke and enrage, while entertaining and thrilling audiences with a play for, and of, our time.
