Samuel Rancourt is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges painting, film, television, and cultural commentary. Trained in portraiture, he regularly takes part in major art events across Quebec. His paintings have been featured at L’Art de donner—a benefit for the Quebec Lung Association—the Symposium Mille et Une Couleurs sur le Fjord, where he received the Peer Recognition Prize, and the Expo-Concours L’Art à l’Île in Verdun.
In cinema, Samuel has both starred in and co-created independent films such as Flore and Dreamer. He also played the lead role in Le Chanteur, which earned the “Sélection” Prize from the Montreal Symphony Orchestra at the Gala Kino and received honours at the Plan d’ensemble Film Festival.
On television, he is the creator of two national series: ICI les archives (Radio-Canada), a lively exploration of Canada’s national archives, and Le savais-tu? (TOU.TV), which reveals Manitoba’s most surprising stories. He also wrote and produced L’œuvre de Gabrielle Roy (ARTV), a documentary paying tribute to the legendary Canadian writer.

Which ’hood are you in?
I’m in Verdun! I love this corner of Montreal — all the greenery, the river walks, the bike paths. It’s calm but full of life. Honestly, it’s the perfect place to recharge and get inspired to paint.
What do you do?
Painting is what takes up most of my days. I usually work on three canvases at once — that way, if one hits a creative wall, I can jump to another. I’m also an actor, so I get to dive into scripts and bring different characters to life on set. And when I’m not painting or acting, I love sharing stories about art and history through short cultural segments.
What are you currently working on?
Right now, I’m painting a new series featuring colourful, theatrical characters — I’m having a lot of fun with it. I’m also writing the script for a feature film, a love story that takes place during a 1990s road trip.
Recently, I teamed up with music producer Travis Maclean to create a song and music video that launched my latest painting collection. You can check it out here.
Where can we find your work?
My paintings are online at my website. You can also see clips from the films I’ve worked on on my IMDB profile.
