Montréal Travel Just Got Easier: New Montréal Metropolitan Airport Terminal Opening!

The Montréal Metropolitan Airport (MET) is about to expand your travel horizons to and from Montréal. From June 2026, locals and visitors to the city will have what many are calling a more practical option for flying between Greater Montréal and the rest of Canada.

It also provides a much-needed alternative to flying in and out of Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL), located roughly 20 km from downtown Montréal in Dorval. In comparison, the MET, formerly known as Montréal Saint-Hubert Airport, is about 15 km from the city centre in Longueuil. This more central location should help travellers avoid some of the highway traffic, road construction, and parking frustrations often associated with the Dorval airport experience.

When it comes to the new Montréal MET experience, Porter Airlines CEO Michael Deluce says it’s like Billy Bishop Airport on steroids. Although the new MET terminal is twice the size of the Toronto island airport, it was designed to feel calm, efficient, and easy to move through. Most travellers will admit flying can feel like a grind these days, but the MET’s sleek, minimal, and user-friendly design gives passengers space to decompress before and after takeoff.

Where Can The MET Take Me?

Who do we have to thank for this airport upgrade? Porter Airlines is the inaugural airline investor behind the new MET terminal. The backstory is that a smaller airport already existed in Longueuil, but through the Porter and MET partnership, it has expanded to offer far more direct domestic flights across Canada. Better yet, there are no overnight flights scheduled, so Montréalers can have a good night’s sleep.

Fly with Porter Airlines from the MET to 11 destinations across Canada, including Hamilton, Toronto Pearson and Billy Bishop, Moncton, Charlottetown, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Halifax.

The flights coming out of the MET will complement Porter’s continuing commitment to Montréal–Trudeau. By serving both airports, Porter Airlines is offering passengers more choice, flexibility, and convenience in selecting their flights and destinations.

The new terminal is also good news for Pascan Aviation, the Québec-based regional airline. Through an interline partnership with MET and Porter, Pascan passengers can anticipate more seamless connections to Eastern Canadian and Maritime destinations such as Québec City, Gaspé, Îles-de-la-Madeleine, and Saint John for a Bay of Fundy getaway. Passengers can purchase a single ticket that includes flights on both airlines, along with baggage transfer.

Could The MET Become Montréal’s Favourite Airport?

Based on feedback from Montréalers, especially South Shore residents, the new MET terminal is shaping up to be a more convenient and relaxed way to travel. For many locals, having another airport closer to the city centre simply makes flying feel easier and more accessible.

Every airport has its own perks, but if you prefer a less overwhelming, human-scale travel experience and airports like Toronto’s Billy Bishop are more your vibe, then chances are you’ll enjoy travelling through the MET. The terminal was designed to feel calm, efficient, and easy to navigate.

If the MET is helping put a little more humanity and joy back into flying, then let’s keep those elbows up and travel Canada in support of Canadian tourism.

Getting To The MET Is Easier Than You Think

Where is Longueuil?

The MET is located just across from downtown Montréal in Longueuil, a South Shore suburb along the St. Lawrence River. It can be easily reached from the city centre via the Yellow Line of the Montréal métro. By car, drivers can take QC-112 E and QC-116 E, two major provincial highways connecting directly to the area.

Public transit and METbus combo

The MET offers a direct shuttle between the terminal and Longueuil métro station on the Yellow Line. Known as METbus, the shuttle runs approximately every 30 minutes and provides a fast, reliable, and affordable connection. Locals are expected to be able to use their Montréal métro card, while visitors can pay cash or purchase a ticket at the terminal.
