Five Minutes With: Alt-Rock Band Ask Ophelia

Ask Ophelia is the alternative rock project of Montreal-based songwriter Mélissa Charbonneau. Founded in 2020 in the quiet chaos of the pandemic, it began as a deeply personal, DIY outlet: an exploration of control, desire, and emotional tension through raw, instinctive songwriting.

In early 2024, Ask Ophelia evolved into a full band, bringing new depth and intensity to the sound. Joined by Marc-Antoine Grisé (drums), Paul Nobert (bass, backing vocals), and Martine Desjardins (lead guitar), the project expanded without losing its emotional core.

Blending alt-rock grit with a strong melodic pull, Ask Ophelia creates a dark, magnetic atmosphere: something immediate, textured, and hard to shake. It’s music that draws you in quietly before shifting beneath your feet.

The band is currently working on their debut LP.

I’d say an LP. There’s something special about being able to tell a full story and explore a concept from start to finish.

Early bird or night owl?

Both. I go where the energy takes me.

Road or studio?

We haven’t been on the road yet, but there’s something really exciting about bringing the music out, meeting new people, and seeing new places. We can’t wait to do that… pretty soon!
