The Yellow Door in Montréal aims to bring youth and senior members of the community together with the aim of social inclusion. We got to speak to their Communications Coordinator Nicky DiCaprio to find out more about the awesome work they do in our communities.
Describe your charity/non-profit in a few sentences.
The Yellow Door is a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring youth and senior members of the community together with the aim of social inclusion. Through activities, workshops, friendly phone calls and accompaniments, and with the help of our devoted volunteers, we aim to combat social isolation across generations.
What problem does it aim to solve?
The Yellow Door aims to solve social isolation across generations, to improve the quality of life of our senior members by increasing social responsibility and promoting autonomy.
When did you start/join it?
I started in September 2021.
What made you want to get involved?
The Yellow Door’s mission is so important. Promoting autonomy and improving the quality of life of seniors is something that is underrated in our community. What also goes unnoticed at times is the loneliness that international students experience during the school year. Through volunteering, they can have a sense of belonging and make an impact at the same time.
What more needs to be done?
We have to continue in the same direction and persevere in making an impact on the lives of our members and volunteers. We are always thinking of new ways to promote social inclusion, whether it be by integrating new programs, starting new wellness groups, etc!

Do you have any events coming up?
For the holiday season, the YD has organized a special event for our members. With the help of our volunteers, warm meals will be delivered to the doors of our senior members with the aim of making them feel some much-needed holiday cheer. We have been fundraising for this event since November 1st and we would be eternally grateful for any exposure that could be given to this event. Whether it be by volunteering, donating, or simply sharing the details of our event, any kind of support is greatly appreciated.
