Gina the dog is looking for a new home in the Montréal area

If you’re looking for a quiet, routine sweet dog who will follow you like a shadow in your daily life, Gina is perfect for you. At first, she’s a little apprehensive, so it’ll take a little getting used to before she’ll trust you. The good news is that this beautiful cocotte is highly motivated by food, and for her age, she’s more eager than ever to learn!

On the leash, she’s exemplary. She walks at a good pace, doesn’t pull, and doesn’t react to other dogs. She’s the ideal company for someone who walks calmly; running isn’t really her thing. If you have a yard, she loves to dig and roll in the grass. But she can just sit on the balcony and watch in peace and quiet.

She knows the commands, sit, paw and other, come, spin and down, but the last only if she’s confident. She responds to commands in French, English and Polish.

Due to her anxiety, Gina is very attached to her human, but once the routine is in place, she can stay home alone for several hours. She may cry if she feels left out, but this is not excessive. If you allow her access to the sofa, to the bed, she will stay put. If you don’t, she’ll test your limits because she’s stubborn, but she understands very well when you say no.

When her human comes home, she dances, runs, brings her toy and rubs against the walls. However, she doesn’t really play. She does, however, like to bring her “quick quick” toys into her personal space.
This little dog shows no aggression when fed. She sits quietly and waits to be called to eat. She may be anxious if you move her toys, which are her emotional supports, but she’s not reactive if you touch them.

Finally, if there’s one thing we need to work on with her, it’s her confidence with strangers in the house. Slow introductions with treats are recommended, and don’t be tempted to touch her head when she doesn’t know you well. She has been in supervised contact with children, but I recommend contact with them only if the child is able to respect her space.

Give her a chance, once she opens up to you, she’s a real gem.
