Five Minutes With: Dark Pop Artist Dawn Cadence

Montreal/Toronto’s boundary-pushing artist, Dawn Cadence, stands as an icon of fearless creativity in the independent music scene. At only 21 years old, the musical sorceress is a force to be reckoned with—a singer, songwriter, and producer whose artistry defies convention. Dawn’s journey into the world of music production began at the tender age of 17. As a young vocalist, she unearthed a remarkable four-octave vocal range, including the ethereal whistle register. Influenced by an eclectic array of musical pioneers, including Sevdaliza, SPELLLING, Minnie Riperton, Kate Bush, and Weyes Blood, Dawn Cadence crafts a sound that transcends traditional genres. Her music effortlessly weaves through trip-hop, orchestral rock, baroque pop, dark synthwave, and alternative R&B, creating a sonic tapestry that is uniquely her own. Dawn’s latest work, “Odyssey,” exemplifies her boundless creativity and artistic evolution. This album is a testament to her prowess as a producer and a fearless innovator, blending hauntingly beautiful melodies with refreshing ingenuity. In Dawn Cadence’s universe, musical boundaries dissolve, genres intermingle, and emotions run deep. With “Odyssey,” the journey has only just begun.

There’s so much talent in this city, it’s insane. Going to give a shoutout to Vitalia – such an incredible performer and vocalist! Also shout-out to my friend, Violet Massie-Vereker, who has done some backing vocals at my live shows – she has a voice like no other and the warmest soul you’ll ever come across.

EP or LP?

LP, but I’m biased because I’m releasing mine this month. Seriously though, I love the way a full-length album can transport you to another dimension.
