Bibelot Studio is a local small business which sells handmade day-to-day objects in Jesmonite. These products, made in this eco-friendly, durable, unique material that has a cheerful sort of vibe, are all created by the designer Anouk B. Paradis. We spoke with Paradis, the founder of the brand, to find out more about the work that they do.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Our business is called Bibelot. We specialize in crafting timeless objects with a minimal carbon footprint. Our aim is to offer innovative, sustainable products that add a touch of playfulness and simplicity to everyday spaces.
What made you want to do this work?
What inspired me to pursue this work was my deep-rooted passion for nature and sustainability. Growing up surrounded by the forests of the Laurentides near Montreal, I developed a profound appreciation for the environment. I wanted to channel this appreciation into creating objects that not only reflect my values but also contribute to a greener, more sustainable world.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
I aim to provide an eco-friendly solution and a local option for people seeking to acquire useful and decorative items for their homes.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Individuals passionate about design and unique objects. People seeking to add a touch of colour and fun to their homes.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
Bibelot offers a range of items, from plates to candle holders, as well as flower pots and coasters. We are currently testing prototypes for a future line of textured objects!
Where in the city can we find your profession?
We are located in Montreal, in a shared studio in the Mile-End neighbourhood.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
A question could be: Are Jesmonite objects durable? And the answer is yes, the composition of Jesmonite creates objects that endure over time, nearly unbreakable! More durable and more eco-friendly than concrete and ceramics.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The most exciting aspect of having my own business is that there aren’t many limits to creativity, and I can experiment at my own pace. The slightly more challenging aspect is wearing all the hats as an entrepreneur; you have to keep an eye on all aspects, including those that may not be your cup of tea!
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
The joke people often like to make is: ‘Wow, it’s colourful, it must be edible 😉 ;)?’ I must have heard that joke about 40 times and found it funny at the beginning!
Where can we follow you?
PAY IT FORWARD: What is another local business that you love?
I absolutely love what Fusion F does, they create beautiful blown glass objects!
